Stripburger has already released two comic book adaptations of Butalci mishaps (Butalci v Stripu 1 & 2, Forum Ljubljana, 2020 & 2022). Now they’ll be joined by an exhibition/intervention consisting of a series of five figurative installations, which will be on display as part of the Tinta Festival at several locations in the capital (Mestni trg, Trg Republike, Park narodnih herojev, SEM garden, Kino Šiška). Don’t miss Butalci in the City, addressing passers-by with a good measure of humour!

Alongside a projection of individual frames from the comic book on the big screen and accompanied by sound effects and live music, they will present the cult comic about this bloody period of history.

Swedish comics artists Max Andersson and Lars Sjunnesson are traveling around the former Yugoslav republics with the mummy of Marshal Tito in the fridge to promote their comic book Bosnian Flat Dog. On the way, they meet the Serbian comics author Aleksandar Zograf, the Croatian artist Igor Hofbauer, the creators of the Slovenian comics magazine Stripburger and other representatives of the post-Yugoslav independent cultural scene.

In the “real” world, as they retrace their comic book steps and watch border checkpoints turn into impromptu photo parties, admire mutant Disney toys from behind the Iron Curtain, buy handmade souvenirs made from shell casings, and discover sniper art galleries hidden in shot-up apartments, they realize that truth really can be stranger than fiction.

The Simulaker Gallery in Novo Mesto promises a comics treat for the youngest, named after Stripburger’s book collection of the same name.

The group comics exhibition is dedicated to contemporary Slovenian comics production, mostly aimed at children. The Minimundus issues are based on both original scripts and adaptations of folk tales and fables, and individual comics from the collection have also received several awards.

Five Slovenian authors are participating in the exhibition: Andrej Štular, Saša Kerkoš, Maja Kastelic, Igor Šinkovec and David Krančan. Both originals and sketches and various other materials will be on display, and there will also be a reading corner. An exhibition that is sure to impress both the young and the slightly older!

On Thursday, October 20, there will also be a guided viewing of the exhibition, followed by a conversation with the authors in the atrium of the Goga Bookshop in Novo Mesto.

How to Be a Detective? exhibition at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum will be accompanied by a comics workshop dedicated to a wide variety of superheroes. Participants will get to know the characteristics of comic book heroes and the creative challenges that arise with their portrayal or with the development of the story.

The workshop will be led by seasoned comics artists and educators David Krančan and Andrej Štular.

The workshop is intended for young people (9+), but adults are also welcome. The number of places is limited, advance registration is required.

Participants will create short comics based on fables of their own choosing.
The free workshop is intended for recreational comics artists of all kinds (without published original comics in book form) from the age of 16 onwards.
The number of places is limited, advance registration is required.
 When applying, please also submit your CV and portfolio, examples of comics or other art works.
