GRÉGORY PANACCIONE IN WILFRID LUPANO

Seasoned French masters of comic book art and storytelling

A Sea of Love (Un océan d’amour), the award-winning silent comic about a couple separated and then reunited by the sea, is the work of two infamous artists: French-Italian illustrator and animator Grégory Panaccione (born 1968) and French comics writer Wilfrid Lupano (born 1971). Both have published their works with major French publishing houses such as Delcourt and Dargaud and boast a series of high-profile achievements. Panaccione illustrated parts of the humorous fantasy saga Dungeon (Donjon), which is also popular in Slovenia, while Lupano gained fame with his series about aging anarchists, Old Farts (Les Vieux Fourneaux), which has also been adapted into a successful film.

Grégory Panaccione’s comics oeuvre is incredibly diverse, ranging from wordless graphic novels such as My Friend Toby, about the friendship between a man and a dog, and Match, about a tense tennis match, to comic book adaptations of novels by contemporary French authors. Together with the famous Italian animator Bruno Bozzetto, creator of beloved cartoons like Stripy and Lilliput Put, Panaccione also developed the superhero comic Minivip & Supervip.

Wilfrid Lupano, an incredibly prolific and award-winning writer, works across many genres. Among young readers, he is known for the popular comic book series The Wolf in Underpants (Le Loup en slip). His recent publications include the award-winning historical graphic novel The Library Mule of Cordoba (La bibliomule de Cordoue).

Izar Lunaček will interview both guests at the opening of Panaccione’s exhibition of original works at the Equrna Gallery. Additionally, each author will present his own work in a masterclass at the comics fair at Kino Šiška on Saturday.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the mastercalss by Wilfrid Lupano will be held online.
