MIKAEL ROSS
The power of visual storytelling and sensitive insight into differences!
Mikael Ross (1984) is one of the most important contemporary German comics artists, whose works inspire readers and garner critical acclaim. His comics have been translated into many languages and have been published by the world’s biggest comic book publishers, receiving numerous awards. His international breakthrough came with the comic book Der Umfall (The Thud, 2018), which will also be published as Šola padanja in Slovenian by Stripburger. The comic book, which also received the main German comics award Max & Moritz, introduces the too often ignored stories and unheard voices of vulnerable and marginalized groups of the population to comics literature. The story is told from the perspective of a young man with an intellectual disability, whose life turns upside down when his mother suffers a stroke; he has to move away from the home environment he was used to and face many changes. The comic book masterpiece offers sensitive insight into the lives of people with an intellectual disability, as well as a charming and often highly humorous account of overcoming life’s ups and downs.
Ross will present his creative process at Saturday’s masterclass at Kino Šiška, where he will also sign the newly published Slovenian translation of his comic book Šola padanja at the fair.
